JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Embassy Suites and Convention Center is a large construction project many of us pass by every day in Jonesboro.
Tuesday, we got an inside look with a tour through the construction site.
The nearly $50 million project saw its ceremonial groundbreaking in May of 2018.
We've watched it grow day by day, and now the inside is taking shape too, including the front office area, the large banquet room and smaller side ballrooms that are sectioned off.
It's a hotel, convention center and restaurant that will have a huge impact on the surrounding community.
“We really expect it to be a hub of entertainment and activity that’s going to go on, especially when there are any events like football and basketball going on,” General Manager of Embassy Suites Hotel in Jonesboro Kraig Pomrenke said. “In addition to the university, this allows the university now to have another facility that they can start to bring in some other conferences and be a kind of landmark place for those types of events.”
Once completed, the building is expected to open up 125 to 175 jobs.
Weather has impacted the construction timeline a little bit, but they’re still expecting to open up in late August 2019 in time for the first A-State football game.
