INDEPENDENCE & JACKSON COUNTIES, AR (KAIT) -Crews are waiting for the rain to stop so many roads across Jackson and Independence Counties can re-open.
AR-DOT District 5 Engineer Bruce Street said he is watching the forecast and road conditions closely and several routes did close, including Highways 37 and 18 near Grubbs.
Cars also can’t get through Highway 226 in Jackson County.
Street said that drivers need to check the road closures and be prepared.
“If you have to get out, plan ahead," Street said. "It’s going to take you a lot longer to get to your destination if the routes you’re on are being closed, and by all means do not cross any routes that are underwater.”
Street said if you can’t see the white line and the yellow stripe through the water which is usually about three or four inches, don’t cross it.
Street also said as the rain keeps coming down, expect more road closures.
