JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Craighead County celebrated a milestone Tuesday. It turned 160 years old.
According to the Arkansas Association of Counties, Craighead County was formed on Feb. 19, 1859 from parts of Greene, Mississippi, and Poinsett counties.
The county was named after Thomas H. Craighead, who at the time represented Mississippi and Crittenden counties in the state legislature.
Craighead County has two county seats in Jonesboro and Lake City.
As of 2017, more than 107,000 people called it home.
