BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) - A new playground just opened and city officials are excited about the new addition.
The playground is located at Riverside Park in Batesville, near the White River and Riverside Amphitheatre.
Batesville Mayor Rick Elumbaugh said the newly opened park was a much-needed update.
The new playground, which is open for children ages 12 and under, is one of two in Riverside Park and is called the “White River Queen."
“It was designed and named after the steamboat that was on the White River,” Elumbaugh said.
Elumbaugh said the playground costs were around $100,000 and was installed by the City of Batesville Parks and Recreation.
“You know, we have a lot of youth and this Riverside Park is used especially in the spring and the summer and even in the fall," Elumbaugh said. "So, we get hundreds of individuals that come here on the weekends and it’s just a nice addition for our park.”
