Press Release from the PBA Tour

Andrew Anderson, who won the 2018 Jonesboro Open title on his way to earning PBA Player of the Year honors, will return to Hijinx Feb. 26-March 3 hoping to defend his title, enhance his bid to retain his Player of the Year status, and earn some valuable points to earn a trip to the new PBA Playoffs in Portland, Maine, in April.

The finals of the 2019 Go Bowling! PBA Tour event will be televised live on FOX Sports’ FS1 channel on Sunday, March 3, at 4 p.m. CST.

Anderson, in his second year as a PBA member, defeated Tom Daugherty of Riverview, Fla., 264-224, to win his second PBA title in the 2018 Jonesboro Open. The 2019 tournament, however, will present some new challenges to the 23-year-old Holly, Mich., resident and the rest of the world-class field.

For starters, the road to the inaugural PBA Playoffs runs through Jonesboro and the eighth tournament of the 2019 Go Bowling! PBA Tour season. Classified as a Tier 3 tournament in a new PBA competition points system, points earned in Jonesboro will help determine the 24 players who will compete for a $100,000 first prize in the Playoffs in April.

Secondly, the tournament will be contested on a “mixed lane condition” scoring environment that is seeing increased use in 2019. The mixed lane condition challenge will involve all players bowling their first seven-game qualifying round on the 36-foot Viper oiling pattern on Wednesday, Feb. 27, and their second qualifying round on the 48-foot Shark lane condition on Thursday. After 14 games, the top 16 qualifiers will advance to match play where they will bowl 16 head-to-head matches on a “mixed” condition, with the Shark pattern applied to the left lane and the Viper on the right lane.

Third, the stepladder finals will be nationally-televised live on FS1 as part of the PBA’s historic new television contract with FOX Sports.

Thirty games of qualifying and match play – all of which will be live streamed by PBA’s new online streaming partner, FloBowling – will determine the five players who will compete for the Jonesboro Open title live on FS1 on Sunday, March 3, at 4 p.m. For FloBowling subscription information, visit

The tournament promises another classic battle between the established stars of the PBA and a group of highly-regarded young players who are trying to build Rookie of the Year resumes. But standing their way will be an experienced group of established PBA Hall of Famers including Chris Barnes, Norm Duke, Pete Weber and Walter Ray Williams Jr.; and PBA Tour title winners Dick Allen, Anderson, Brad Angelo, DJ Archer, Cristian Azcona, Dom Barrett, Jakob Butturff, Tom Daugherty, Graham Fach, Gary Faulkner Jr., Andres Gomez, Tommy Jones, Marshall Kent, Thomas Larsen, Francois Lavoie, Chris Loschetter, Wes Malott, Bill O’Neill, Rhino Page, Osku Palermaa, Sean Rash, Ronnie Russell, Matt Sanders, Sunday’s PBA Player Championship winner Anthony Simonsen, Tom Smallwood, Jason Sterner, Jesper Svensson, EJ Tackett, Richie Teece and Stuart Williams.

The tournament unofficially gets underway at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, with a Pre-Tournament Qualifier (PTQ) where non-exempt players will bowl for the right to advance to the tournament proper. A minimum of 10 PTQ players will advance after their six-game qualifier.

In addition to the PBA competition, Jonesboro area grassroots bowlers will have an opportunity to bowl with the PBA stars in a pro-am on Saturday at 10 a.m., 12:30 and 4 p.m. For pro-am information, call Hijinx at 870-972-5270.
