JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - In an emergency, you expect 911 dispatchers to pick up the phone with help immediately.
Training prepares dispatchers and call takers for our emergency.
Jonesboro E-911 Director Jeff Presley said it’s important for dispatchers to work efficiently.
“It’s important for those dispatchers to know exactly what questions to ask,” Presley said. “911 operators train from day one to get that good, reliable information.”
The dispatchers go through training once a year to learn new ways to serve the community.
“We all meet in Little Rock to go over the new updates, the new training for law enforcement and dispatchers," Presley said.
Presley said social media helps finding information on missing people, but training has the office prepared.
“In a way, social media is good, but we have to be aware of false information being posted," Presley said.
SMART 911 is a tool Presley said can be used by the public to list children’s’ information for law enforcement to use in case an emergency occurs.
A photograph and information can be attached to the SMART profile.
Only law enforcement has access to the information and it’s free to use.
