Arkansas State junior Zan Luka Stirn was named Thursday as the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week, marking the third time this season and fifth time of his career he has garnered the league’s weekly honor.
Stirn earned the award most recently after claiming his third individual championship of the season at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate before coming back to place tied for second at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic and collect his sixth top-three finish of the season.
The junior helped lead A-State to the Bubba Barnett team title, its fourth championship of the season, and to a fifth-place finish out of 14 squads at the Bayou City tourney. He finished at least four strokes under par in each outing while averaging 70.5 strokes per round.
Stirn’s total at the Bayou City included a 66, which was his second lowest single-round score this season. The Kranj, Slovenia, native is ranked 100th in the nation by Golfstat and holds a 71.07 stroke average this year that ranks as the lowest in school history since at least 1993.
A-State has now had three players earn the Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Week award nine times under head coach Mike Hagen, who is currently in his fourth season with the Red Wolves.
Ranked 31st in the nation, Arkansas State is set compete in the Sun Belt Conference Championships April 21-24 in Miramar Beach, Fla.
