Color Me D.A.R.E Raises Money For Students

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Adults and kids took advantage of Saturday’s nice weather to raise money in a colorful way.

The Jonesboro D.A.R.E. program organized a fun color run called, Color Me D.A.RE., at Joe Mack Campbell Park around 9 a.m.

Festivities kicked off with a Zumba class to warm up the runners.

Then, in true color run fashion, the participants threw all the paint in the air creating a cloud of bright colors.

Jonesboro Police Sgt. Morshaydrick Racy works with the D.A.R.E. program and said the attendance has more than doubled in the last ten years.

“It makes you feel great,” Sgt. Racy said. “It makes you feel like people are supporting your program. We are doing some great things in the schools and we want to continue to do that. Just makes me feel good that our community always backs us up on that.”

The D.A.R.E. program reaches out to students in the 5th grade at all of Jonesboro’s schools.

Those interactions between officers and the community are funded by donations and fundraisers like Color Me D.A.R.E.

“We thank everybody for the support. Thank you for supporting these kids. It takes all of us to be able to raise these kids to where they are successful and can carry on these traditions,” Sgt. Racy said.

For those who want to help the D.A.R.E program can talk to Sgt. Racy by either visiting him at the Jonesboro Police Department or checking them out on the Jonesboro D.A.R.E. Facebook page.
