JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Jonesboro man faces a kidnapping charge after police say he grabbed a child who was outside playing.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Jonesboro police responded to the 800-block of Hester Street on April 19 due to a possible attempted kidnapping.
The affidavit stated that Gregory Baldwin, who lives near the home where the incident took place, walked into the yard, picked up a 5-year-old girl, and started to walk back toward his home.
“The other kids started screaming and a 11-year-old girl ran over to Baldwin and pulled the 5-year-old out of his arms,” the affidavit stated.
Court documents went on to say that a woman inside the house heard screaming from outside and ran out to find the 5-year-old on the ground and Baldwin walking away.
Witnesses were interviewed and gave the same account of the event.
Craighead County District Court Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause Monday to charge Baldwin with first-degree kidnapping/false imprisonment and set his bond at $50,000. He also ordered Baldwin to undergo an evaluation at Mid-South Health Systems.
