GROVETOWN, GA (WAGT/NBC NEWS) - A hummingbird continues to find its way back to the same Grovetown, Georgia man who nursed it back to health four years ago. The bird returns to Mike Cardenaz every spring after its journey south.
Cardenaz named the bird Buzz after discovering it had broken wings and couldn’t take flight. He gave it Pedialyte, sugar and a safe place to heal.
Eventually, Buzz regained his strength, and flew from Georgia to South America. That next spring, the bird flew back to Cardenaz, continuing his migration every year since.
This year, though, Buzz was didn’t show up at his normal time.
“I was kind of worried about him and I was on the front porch, sweeping off the front porch and I felt something zoom around my head. I stood on the front porch, put my hand out, and he landed on my hand,” said Cardenaz. “Random hummingbirds don’t land on your hand,” he added.
