MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - After just one Quorum Court meeting, a Region 8 county is expecting 100 new jobs.
There are two separate companies Mississippi County officials are working with, including Atlas Company and one they are not yet releasing the name, but they call it “the beta project.”
Mississippi County Judge John Nelson said they're both industrial factories related to the steel mills, and after two measures were approved during an April quorum court meeting, 100 jobs were created in one month.
The county is incentivizing these jobs, with about $1.4 million altogether.
And Nelson said he has people contacting him that are interested in applying almost every day.
"They're good jobs, and they've got good benefits," Nelson said. "We're placing people in career fields where they can move up."
And this is just an addition to 240 jobs that Nelson said the county has helped create just this year.
That makes a total of 340 new jobs in 2019.
Nelson said the county has made several changes and is looking forward to continued growth in the future.
