BROOKLAND, Ark. (KAIT) - The newest craze has made its way here to Region 8.

If you're planning a night out and looking for something different to do, a new business is right on target.

Big cities have embraced the new fad of throwing axes for fun.

And with so many people traveling to Memphis or further, a new business decided to bring the fun to Brookland.

"They say it's addicting," Co-Owner of The Southern Hackers Hatchet House Brenon Hensley said. "It's fun, sometimes challenging, but once you figure it out, you just have a blast."

Axe throwing is a new activity in the area for your next corporate party, date night with a twist, or just after you've had a long day.

"A lot of people say they feel like they've gotten a lot of frustrations out from the day," Hensley said.

Hensley saw the sport gaining popularity and jumped at the same opportunity that many big cities have capitalized on.

"People always say we need something new in this town," Hensley said. "We're hoping that's what we're bringing."

Anyone 14 years old and up can get the chance to sling an axe.

Located strategically between Jonesboro and Paragould, on Holman Street in Brookland, The Southern Hackers wanted to make the new craze easily accessible for the area.

"We're just trying to get people who are excited about getting some exercise, getting out, and getting something different," Hensley said.

There is a waiver you have to sign before playing and several safety measures the business has in place.
