PARAGOULD, Ark. (KAIT) - Two people are in custody in connection to a shooting Friday night in Paragould.
According to a press release from the Paragould Police Department, after the criminal investigations division, street crimes unit, and patrol worked to follow up on leads throughout the weekend, two individuals, later identified as 18-year-old John Sims of Blytheville and 26-year-old Michael A. Harris of Paragould, were taken into custody.
According to a probable cause affidavit, on May 10 Harris sent a message to the victim asking to meet him at a specific location in Paragould.
Court documents went on to say the victim went to the location to conduct a “transaction” with Harris, but another individual reportedly robbed the victim at gunpoint and shot him in the abdomen.
The affidavit stated that it was discovered that Harris sent the initial message and was taken into custody.
As police were taking Harris into custody, it was discovered that he had a stolen gun in his possession.
During his interview, he told police he sent the initial message with the individual who robbed the victim, but did not know the victim would actually be shot.
Sims was also arrested in connection to the incident.
The Paragould Police Department originally posted on Facebook that dispatchers began receiving calls around 8:15 p.m. on May 10 about shots being fired in the 500-block of North 4th Street.
The victim was treated at the scene for a non-life threatening injury and was taken to a hospital, police said.
Harris was charged with aggravated robbery, theft by receiving, and possession of a firearm by certain persons. Sims was charged with aggravated robbery and battery.
The bond for both suspects was set $25,000 cash only.
The investigation is still ongoing.
