POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Women’s Health Week is May 12 through 18 according to officials with John J. Pershing Medical Center.
During this week, the center will celebrate women and host events to support women veterans and connect them with health care services.
According to center officials the number of women veterans are growing. They account for 30 percent of the increase in veterans who served between 2014 and 2018.
As the number of women veterans grows so does the number of women using VA health services. Center officials said the number has tripled since 2000 from about 160,000 to more than 500,000 in 2019.
On Monday, May 13 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. an open house at the Salem Community Based Outpatient Clinic will be open at the Physician’s Office Building 1 on the campus of Salem Memorial District Hospital.
Center officials said this open house is in celebration of the addition of women’s services at that clinic.
“We are pleased to announce that Cassie Stewart, APRN, will be the new women’s health provider for the Salem clinic,” said John J. Pershing VA Medical Center Director, Dr. Patricia Hall. “Please stop by to tour the clinic, ask questions, meet staff, and receive educational material.”
In Poplar Bluff, the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center will celebrate National Women’s Health Week by hosting a virtual baby shower through Facebook Live on Friday, May 17 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. for all Veteran moms- and dads-to-be.
Center officials said if you want to be a part of this virtual event, go to the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center Facebook page. All participating families will receive a gift, and there will be opportunities to win prizes such as car seats, strollers, and more.
