BAXTER COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT) -A man is in custody after a two-hour manhunt in Baxter County.
According to a press release issued by the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, two sheriff’s investigators were following up on open burglary cases.
The investigators went to an address in the 500-block of Baxter County Road 643 to try and make contact with a suspect. While there, they noticed power cords running to a building on the adjacent property.
They approached to investigate and found 23-year-old Dillon Douglas Fields hiding inside a vehicle inside the building.
The investigators found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, as well as a loaded 9 mm handgun with the serial number defaced and a sawed-off shotgun.
After getting out of the vehicle, Fields took off on foot and a manhunt was organized.
A citizen living on Baxter County Road 1075 caught Fields trying to steal his tractor.
When the property owner confronted him, he took off again.
The press release further stated a dozen deputies, the sheriff’s office helicopter and the canine tracking team with the Arkansas Department of Correction were involved in the search.
Fields was captured on Cartney Road near some turkey barns.
He is being charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, felony possession of drugs and firearms, two counts of possession of defaced firearms and felony fleeing.
His bond was set at $25,000 and he will appear in circuit court later this month.
