Family off to Hawaii after wish granted for RaeAnn

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Make-A-Wish granted a special wish on Tuesday for a girl named RaeAnn, who had three open-heart surgeries last year.

The five-year-old and her family are going to Hawaii next week to see Moana.

The Gagel family adopted RaeAnn in January 2018 from China.

It didn’t take doctors long to realize she had a heart condition.

RaeAnn suffered from transposition of the great arteries and other complications.

Amy, RaeAnn’s mother, said the time spent in the hospital was hard for the whole family.

“We were separated a lot with her being in the hospital almost 100 days,” Amy said. “It was tough because they’re at home with grandparents. He and I are taking turns at the hospital. We were just trying to take care of everybody, but also be there for her as well.”

The entire family looks forward to spending time together relaxing and having fun.

Her father, David, said the family is grateful RaeAnn got her wish granted.

“It’s overwhelming," David said. "Just the support that the community and the school has given. We’re just blessed beyond measure to be able to do this together as a family and just really looking forward to it. Its a much-needed break for us.”

The family is hopeful RaeAnn’s last surgery will keep her happy and healthy for as long as possible.

“We are very optimistic with the last surgery she had," Amy said. "We just enjoy every day that we have.”

The family’s trip will last one week and they are already looking forward to it.
