KENNETT, Mo. (KAIT) - An argument early Tuesday morning ended in a Kennett man stabbed to death.

The incident occurred just before 4:30 a.m. at a residence on Legion Street, according to Chief Kenny Wilson.

When officers arrived, they found 37-year-old John W. Ward laying in front of the home with a stab wound to his chest.

An ambulance took Ward to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Wilson said investigators discovered a 35-year-old Kennett man stabbed Ward during the altercation.

The man, who the chief did not identify, cooperated with the investigation.

“No arrest has been made, and no charges filed at this time,” said the police chief. “The Kennett Police Department does not believe there is a danger to the community at this time in relation to this isolated incident.”

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office are assisting the police department in its investigation, Wilson added.
