JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Arkansas State Police have been called in to investigate the death of a Greene County Inmate.

According to Arkansas State Police Public Information Officer Bill Sadler, special agents of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division are investigating the death of Garrett Lee Evers, 27, who had been arrested and jailed earlier this week at the Greene County Detention Center.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Department requested ASP to investigate the death.

Evers was reported by jailers to have experienced a medical emergency on Tuesday, May 14.

Evers was transported from the jail to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Sadler said once the investigation is completed, it would be submitted to a prosecuting attorney of jurisdiction for review.

According to jail records, Evers was arrested at 12:34 a.m. Monday, May 13, on second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, possession of meth/cocaine-2 grams, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
