Ravenden restores Raven statue

RAVENDEN, Ark. (KAIT) - An iconic Region 8 statue is finally getting some much needed upgrades.

It’s been over eight months since the town of Ravenden started raising money to repair the raven statue.

The statue has been a popular tourist attraction since it was built 27 years ago, but the years have taken a toll on the bird.

Back in September, community members started a GoFundMe page to raise money for the statue, and now they have enough to get the restorations started; something everyone is excited to see finished.

“It lasted 27 years last time, we’re hoping to get another 27 or longer out of this one,” said Jack Dail, one of the community members helping with the statue.

Paige Hurdle is handling the restorations.

She said she’s restored antiques before, but she’s never worked on a project like this before.

“I’m just excited to have the opportunity," she said. “It’s wonderful. It’s just great.”

Dail said they still need a little more money to completely pay for the project, their GoFundMe page is still open for donations, you can find that link here.

Bob Clemens, the original statue designer, has also been helping with the restoration.

They hope to be finished in the next three weeks.
