Whiff of drugs leads to arrest, police say

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - The smell of marijuana coming from a house led Jonesboro police to see meth, marijuana and prescription pills during a search this week, according to authorities.

Antonio Gordon of Jonesboro was arrested May 15 after an officer was in the 300-block of East Gordon Street.

According to a probable cause affidavit, an officer knocked on the door after smelling the marijuana and Gordon reportedly opened the door.

Gordon told the officer there was marijuana on the kitchen counter and the officer also noticed marijuana on the counter top near the door, police said.

The officer then told Gordon he had probable cause to get a search warrant for the residence or Gordon could give permission to search the home, the affidavit noted.

“Gordon gave investigators consent search to search the residence. While searching the residence, Inv. Jefferson located a gray pouch and blue glove in the air condition filter area. The blue glove contained a cellophane baggie which contained methamphetamine. The gray pouch was also several cellophane baggie which contained methamphetamine, crack and 35 Alprazolam pills,” police said.

Gordon was arrested on suspicion of possession of meth or cocaine purpose to deliver greater than 10 grams but less than 200 grams, possession of meth or cocaine purpose to deliver greater than 2 grams but less than 10 grams and possession of schedule IV or V with purpose to deliver.

A $75,000 bond was set for Gordon, who will be arraigned June 28 in circuit court.
