Hoxie looks at land for new city park

HOXIE, Ark. (KAIT) - A Region 8 city might be getting a new park soon.

Mayor Dennis Coggins has been looking for land for a new city park since taking office in January, and he may have found the perfect spot.

Lawrence County is in the process of potentially donating several lots of land to Hoxie for the new park- a much bigger space than the half-block the current park is.

The new space is on Annie Street, next to the city’s walking trail, and Mayor Coggins said he’s excited to get started on the project.

“We’re going to put a nice pavilion out there where moms and dads can just go out there and watch the trains and stuff like that, and we’re going to put some playground equipment and maybe it’s big enough to put a softball field,” said Coggins.

The county is still in the process of discussing the donation, and the Lawrence County Quorum Court should discuss it in the next couple of months.

Mayor Coggins has also applied for a matching grant to help with the costs of building the new park, if everything is approved.
