JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - A man appeared in court Monday following an alleged assault earlier this month.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers responded to an assault May 17 at the 1410-block of West Nettleton Ave.
When police arrived, the victim told police her boyfriend, Derric Reynolds, assaulted her at the 1400-block of Brookhaven Rd. after she got up to change the DVD and it reportedly made Reynolds mad.
According to the victim, Reynolds told her to leave multiple times before grabbing a chisel and striking her in the head with it.
The victim was reportedly struck again after falling to the floor, but then left and walked to the fire department for treatment.
According to the affidavit, the victim had swelling around her left eye down into her cheek, along with a laceration that was bleeding.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Reynolds was arrested and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center and was later charged with aggravated assault, a Class D felony.
Reynolds is scheduled to appear in court again on June 28.
