JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) -City Youth Ministries staff and educators strive to help kids reach their full potential.
Their non-profit program helps children with their schoolwork, physical activity, the arts and making sure their bellies are full.
The one thing recently discovered their kids need to keep making steps toward their future. . .shoes.
A Region 8 business has stepped up to help make a difference.
Posey Peddler Flowers and Emporium employees are collecting shoes for roses.
Owner Bridgette Arnold said this was something she and her employees all wanted to do.
“I love City Youth’s program,” Arnold said. “I love the people involved and I think it’s a really good local organization that helps all of us in Jonesboro. I think it’s the saddest thing for kids not to have shoes. So, I wanted to spur people on. I want them think about those who might not have as much as them and, in return, give them some beauty for their generosity.”
Arnold said they were thrilled when their first donation showed up on Thursday.
“We were excited to get our first pair of shoes donated today,” Arnold said. “We have them in a basket and we hope to get enough donations that need to expand to a room. The kids need these shoes now. I have a son and I know how fast kids grow.”
Helping a local charity or organization is nothing new to Posey Peddler.
“We try to come up with a local charity every quarter that we can help,” Arnold said. “When we saw Denise’s call for help from City Youth, we decided to help them. We need to be there for these kids. My employees are excited to help give back to the community. We’ll all on board.”
City Youth Ministries have signed on 100 children for their summer program.
Posey Peddler will be collecting shoes through June 19.
They’re looking for boys and girls shoes, sizes for first through seventh graders.
You can drop off donations at their location on 135 Southwest Drive.
