PARAGOULD, Ark. (KAIT) - A local mayor said Wednesday that their town’s population is up and their unemployment is down, leading to a great place to live.
The city of Paragould recently released its economic report, noting the local economy is on the upward rise.
Mayor Mike Gaskill said the city has their own utilities, which include electric, water, sewer, internet and cable television.
“One of the things we try to do is try to keep the expenses for the citizens down,” he said. “They can have the moneys in their pockets, so they’ll spend them here and support all the businesses in town.”
The Greene County’s unemployment rate is down to 2.6%, according to the economic report.
Mayor Gaskill said the low unemployment numbers has had a positive impact on the industries.
“Some of our industries are not only bragging about the people working for them, but they’re also talking about the need of hiring people,” he said.
Gaskill said he hopes with the city’s success, he looks forward to seeing the population continue to rise.
