IZARD COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT) - A longtime sheriff in Region 8 was appointed Thursday evening to serve as sheriff in Izard County.

According to a post on the Izard County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Jack Yancey was selected to fill the unexpired term of Earnie Blackley.

Jack Yancey was appointed by the Izard County Quorum Court tonight to fulfill the remainder of Sheriff Earnie Blackley's term.

Blackley died Jan. 4 after battling cancer.

Yancey, who served as sheriff from 1979 to 1990, was also appointed sheriff in 2017 after the death of Sheriff Tate Lawrence.
