Four shot as Poplar Bluff police investigate shootings

4 shot in pair of separate incidents

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo (KAIT) - The Poplar Bluff/Butler County Major Case Squad was activated Sunday after four people were shot in two separate incidents in the city.

According to Lt. Josh Stewart with Poplar Bluff police, officers got a call around 2:15 p.m. Sunday about the first shooting in the Bacon Park area.

According to a news release, the 23-year-old male victim was flown to a St. Louis hospital with critical injuries. The release states the victim “had a single gunshot wound and was brought to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center by a private vehicle” before being airlifted.

Police also released a video on social media Sunday of a possible suspect in the Bacon Park shooting case.

The Poplar Bluff Police Department is seeking the identity of the male in the video in regards to a shooting investigation. If you know the identity of the male please contact Detective Dan Mustain at or 573-686-8632.

The second shooting happened around 3 p.m. in the 1500-block of Wallace Street.

The release said three people--a 56-year-old male, a 48-year-old male, and a 26-year-old female--were shot.

The victims were taken to PBRMC for treatment.

“We don’t know if they are associated or not,” Chief Danny Whiteley said. ”We are trying to get video of the incidents. The three on Wallace at this point are still alive.”

Law enforcement is currently searching for a suspect involved in the case.

The major case squad involved includes Poplar Bluff Police, the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
