Body of missing 9-year-old swimmer found in Black River

9-year-old boy drowns in Black River

BUTLER COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - The search is over for a nine-year-old swimmer who went missing in Butler County on Thursday, June 4.

Search crews recovered the body of the Naylor, Mo. boy around 9 p.m.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), troopers were called to the Black River north of the U.S. Highway 67 Bridge shortly before 4:45 p.m.

MSHP said the boy tried to swim to an island across the river channel and began to struggle.

The boy went under the water and did not resurface.

Marine troopers were called in to search for the boy and found his body.

The boy’s family has been notified of his death.

Butler County deputies and medical personnel were also on scene.

The Butler County Coroner and the next of kin have been notified.

MSHP reported the boy was not wearing a life jacket.
