CORNING, Ark. (KAIT) - Officials in one Clay County town said Thursday they would be closing the city pool due to a spike in COVID-19 cases.
According to a post on the city of Corning Facebook page, the pool was closed effective Thursday.
The Victory Lake Sports Complex closed as well. Mayor Greg Ahrent says people at the complex were not social distancing.
With a spike in cases, the city wanted to make the best decision for everyone.
“I’m sure some of them feel blindsided but we have the children’s best interests at heart, and it was strictly safety concerns,” he says.
Mayor Ahrent says they will reevaluate the city’s progress on COVID-19 mid-July to see if they will or will not reopen the pool.
The city announced via Facebook about free COVID-19 testing starting Monday, June 22.
