MARKED TREE, Ark. (KAIT) - Iresha Wilkins is a mother of 6 whose home caught on fire Saturday night, leaving most of her and her children’s belongings destroyed.
“Everything that I and the kids have just gone down in flames, it’s horrible,” Wilkins said.
Wilkins says the police, fire department, and the whole Marked Tree community came together to help her in her time of need.
“The police department came, and he took me to the store, and he was like just get anything you and your kids need. And I got Pampers, bottles, everything they needed to supply me for a week, and I just want to thank him for doing that,” Wilkins said.
Wilkins said the fire happened around 11 p.m. Saturday. A toy she bought as a Christmas present for one of the kids caught on fire in her bedroom, then spread to the rest of the home.
She said she’s glad her kids are safe. That is the most important thing, but now they’re unsure what to do.
“We didn’t have shoes; we don’t have clothes, we don’t have none of that. The community came together to get us something to wear. We don’t know what we’re going to do for them for Christmas," Wilkins said. "All their Christmas stuff got burnt up. Right now, we don’t know where to turn or what to do.”
Wilkins says she is very thankful for the community’s support so far. Community members have made donations on her Go Fund Me page, but she needs your help.
“Like my whole life is gone. Everything I had. I just want everybody to come together and help me and my kids,” Wilkins said.
