NBA player Malik Monk distributes 300 turkeys to those in need
LEPANTO, Ark. (KAIT) - The 4th annual Malik Monk Turkey Drive was held in Lepanto on Saturday.
Volunteers gave away over 300 turkeys, complete with all of the fixings, to families in need.
Lepanto, Tyronza, Earle, Osceola, and Marked Tree were just a few of several communities across northeast Arkansas that were served on Saturday.
Malik Monk is a Lepanto native and an NBA player for the Charlotte Hornets.
Though he could not attend the event, Malik’s brother, Marcus Monk, was there to explain why the event is essential for the community.
“Just to be able to give back, be able to spread joy, spread love. It’s something we need in all capacities right now, so this year is more special than any year because of that,” Marcus Monk said.
Marcus Monk says that his brother, Malik, came up with the idea years ago, but this year, the event needed more than ever because of the pandemic.
Marcus said that he and his brother are happy to give back to the community that raised them, and they just want to pay it forward.
