LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) - Hospitalizations set a new record Wednesday, with the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations now sitting at 1,088.

The Arkansas Department of Health reported 2,212 new cases, 119 of the new cases coming from Craighead County, the fourth-highest total among counties in the state.

The number of people on ventilators is down nine at 186.

Active cases sit at 16,378, up 284 Wednesday, with ten more people dying from the virus, raising the death toll to 2,522.

Governor Asa Hutchinson said the case numbers are no surprise.

“I expected the return to higher case numbers today, and all indications are that the number will continue to be high through the week. With the COVID-19 virus in every area of the state (and nation), we need to double our efforts to follow public health guidelines.” Governor Hutchinson said.
