LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) - Gov. Asa Hutchinson and Arkansas Department of Health Secretary Dr. Jose R. Romero gave an update on the state’s response to the coronavirus, including the latest cases of COVID-19 and deaths.
Gov. Hutchinson starts the briefing by discussing vaccines.
Gov. Hutchinson reports 4,107 new COVID-19 cases in Arkansas.
No Northeast Arkansas counties were listed in the top counties for new cases.
Hospitalizations are up 27 at 1,323 with 224 on ventilators up 12.
Dr. Patterson says for the now that the system is holding.
He does not foresee a “critical moment” in the next 2-3 weeks.
However, he expects the strain on the system will continue to increase on a week-by-week basis.
Dr. Romero says that ventilator use is increasing.
He says that the state still has the capacity, but if we don’t guard them carefully we will exceed the capacity.
