Man arrested after nearly $50,000 in drugs, weapon, cash found

BATESVILLE, Ark. (KAIT) - An Independence County man is facing at least four charges, including a drug trafficking charge after authorities say they found nearly $50,000 in drugs, a weapon, and cash.

According to a post on the Independence County Sheriff’s Department Facebook page, Billy Jack Wilson, 45, of Batesville was arrested Wednesday in the case.

Sheriff’s deputies, the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force and the Arkansas Department of Corrections K-9 team found a pound and a half of meth, 600 grams of marijuana, a stolen handgun, and $565 in cash during the arrest, the post noted.

Authorities believe the meth had a street value of $30,000, while the marijuana had a street value of $18,000.

Wilson was arrested on suspicion of trafficking a controlled substance, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of Schedule VI with the intent to deliver greater than 200 grams.

Wilson was being held Thursday in the Independence County jail.
