JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - The 2021 MLK Day celebration, “Truth, Love and Justice,” will be a lot different than in years past.
Dr. Lonnie Williams, vice chancellor for diversity and community engagement at Arkansas State University, announced Thursday that the Northeast Arkansas Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Planning Committee decided to curtail this year’s schedule of events.
In previous years, the celebration commemorating King, Jr.’s birthday included a youth program and march through the streets of Jonesboro.
This year, the committee will instead host a virtual program beginning at noon Monday, Jan. 18.
The event will include comments from A-State Chancellor Kelly Damphousse and performances by the MLK Singers. Former Arkansas legislator Tracy Steele will be the featured speaker.
