Warming shelter in Paragould hopes to help many

PARAGOULD, Ark. (KAIT) - Warming shelters across Region 8 are open to keep those in need out of the harsh elements.

Greater Vision Church opened a 24-hour warming shelter Sunday. They decided to open one up for whoever needs their care.

Coats, blankets, food, warm drinks, first aid kits, and more are available.

Head of Security William Gant II keeps the shelter open and hopes those who need it come.

“We can’t have people just out there homeless. It’s very cold out there. The temperatures are zero,” he said. “We don’t want to see anyone get frozen out there, walking around, nowhere to go.”

Homeowners with inadequate heat can also use their facilities.

“You come, too,” he said. “Get warm. Don’t be ashamed because you don’t have any heat. Don’t sit there and freeze yourself.”

Their gymnasium can hold about 25 people.

Greater Vision Church plans to be open as a 24-hour warming shelter through Feb. 19.
