KENNETT, Mo. (KAIT) - A recent trip to a Southeast Missouri store brought a Kennett woman an opportunity to get some dough - roughly $50,000 in cash.
According to a media release from the Missouri Lottery, Danae Jenkins of Kennett won the $50,000 when she bought a “Crossword Multiplier” scratchers ticket at Cable’s Grocery in Steele.
Jenkins first thought she was going to win $100 as she began scratching the card.
“My mom said, ‘It’d be funny if you won the grand prize,’ Jenkins said, according to the lottery. “I was like, ‘No, I’m not going to win the grand prize.’”
After scratching and matching the words on the crossword ticket, she then thought she won $5,000.
“When I checked it again, I had missed a word,” Jenkins said as she looked at her mother. “Mom, I just won $50,000.”
Jenkins, who is a mother of two children with a third child on the way, said she wants to upgrade her vehicle and look for a new house.
