One killed in Jonesboro house fire

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - One person died early Thursday morning when a fire swept through their home.

The Jonesboro Fire Department reported the fire started just before 2 a.m. Sept. 9 in the 3400-block of Parkwood Road.

Several engines, trucks, and battalions responded to the scene where they found “heavy smoke and fire.” Crews then “initiated an interior fire attack.”

According to the news release, crew members of Engine 3 discovered someone inside the home and quickly removed them.

Firefighters provided medical care until an ambulance arrived and took the victim to a local hospital where a doctor later pronounced them dead.

The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of family.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

This is the second fatal fire in Jonesboro in the last few days. On Friday, 62-year-old Geraldine Coleman and her one-year-old granddaughter died when fire swept through their home on Huntington Avenue. The fire marshal is investigating.
