BOLLINGER COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - On Monday, April 10, Congressman Jason Smith visited Bollinger County to tour the damage caused by the EF2 tornado.

The Missouri congressman first visited local officials at the healthcare center to discuss the aftermath of the tornado.

He later spoke with volunteers and survivors in Glenallen.

Representative Smith said it’s inspiring to see everyone in a small community come together to help one another, and Bollinger Co. is strong enough to make it through.

“You know, I think everyone needs to see the helping hand that the folks in Bollinger Co. were--neighbors helping neighbors, their families, their friends--and they acted so quickly with the unfortunate news that happened Wednesday morning,” Rep. Smith said. “And it’s going to be a long haul ahead of us, but the folks here are strong and committed, and we’re going to get things back to about as normal as we can.”

Five people died and multiple others were injured early Wednesday morning, April 5.

Dozens of homes were destroyed and many other homes and buildings were damaged by the tornado.
