New chief probation officer for E. Ark. sworn in

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Federal courts in the Eastern District of Arkansas have a new chief probation officer. Chief U.S. District Judge Leon Holmes on Friday swore in 41-year-old G. Edward Towe as the replacement for Claretha G. Nelson.

Nelson retired April 30 after reaching the job's mandatory retirement age of 57. A Tennessee native, Towe has been the chief deputy probation officer under Nelson since September 2008. Before coming to Arkansas, he worked for the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee in Nashville.
