Tree sets itself on fire

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – A tree set itself on fire.

Brookland firefighters responded to a call of a tree on fire, shortly after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Jennifer Barber tells Region 8 News that she was going to tear into the old tree with a chainsaw when the tree caught fire.

"I saw little black spots starting to appear all over the trunk. I assumed it was the sun hitting it and then it started smoking. We backed up a little bit and in just a few minutes the entire tree went up in flames. So we decided to call the fire department before it got out of hand," said Barber.

Three Brookland fire trucks responded to the call.
