PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) – Paragould Police and Fire Departments say a small plane crashed in Paragould around 6:15pm Thursday evening.

According to Paragould Police, the plane crashed in an empty field just behind the Lowe's.

When officers arrived, the plane was visibly damaged, but was not on fire. Police say the pilot walked away unharmed. There is no word if anyone else was onboard.

40-year-old veteran flight instructor Charles Pool said the pilot's lucky to be alive.

"This is fair weather airplane.  You shouldn't be flying it in winds like we had today.  And from the looks of it, the tire, they probably hit something on landing that caused it to turn sideways on them," said Pool.

Pool also said the plane that crashed is called an "ultra light" experimental plane. He said you don't need a license to fly it.
