Jonesboro Police arrest man for robbing gas station at gun point

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A man was arrested after Jonesboro police were able to match his description with an armed suspect involved in a morning robbery at the Kum N' Go in North Jonesboro.

According to the Jonesboro police report, they were searching for a man Sunday morning after he robbed the Kum N' Go on N. Church St. around 6 a.m.

The store clerk told police she saw the man head towards an apartment complex behind the gas station. When police arrived, they brought a K9 partner to search for the suspect.

Police said the trail was gone when they arrived to the apartment complex's parking lot which caused them to believe the suspect left in a car.

Shortly before 9 a.m., a man who fit the suspect's description was spotted by police on the intersection of Fisher and Johnson.

He was wearing the same black "Nets" basketball hat on, camouflage shorts, and white high top sneakers that was seen on the surveillance video from the morning robbery.

The officer approached the suspect and told him to raise his hands. Police said the suspect asked "what for" and he was told he was being arrested.

The suspect ran away and the officer shot probes from his taser onto his back and stunned him.

While Erek Carvel Williams, 21, was being placed in handcuffs, police found a cell phone that was stolen from the Exxon on Johnson Ave.

Williams had active warrants for his arrest in both Jonesboro and Craighead County.

He was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center where he faces a felony charge for aggravated robbery.
