JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - In honor of Ovarian Cancer Awareness month, Elements Salon in Jonesboro held a "Teal Toes for Men" event, to help raise awareness for ovarian cancer.
Several men came in to show their support by getting their toe nails painted teal. However, for Jake Morse, coming in and getting his toes painted meant more than just raising awareness.
"My wife is an ovarian cancer survivor," said Morse.
Teal Toes for men started when Elements Owner, Tracy Cole, was inspired by one of her clients.
"When one of my clients, Theresa Ashley, came in for her nail appointment and she had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she brought in teal toes cards about ovarian cancer," said Cole. She really pushed me and the girls at my salon to help get the word out."
Ever since then men have come in to show their support and encourage early detection.
"I just wanted to be a part of it to help support awareness," said Michael Polk.
A cancer that ranks 5th in cancer deaths in women, several guys have put their pride aside to support early detection women
"If it encourages a lady to go to the doctor early, and get the symptoms and concerns that she has answered, it's time well spent," said Morse.
