A-State Bowling Claims Fourth Seed in Day 2 of Crusader Classic

VALPARAISO, IN (ASU) – The Arkansas State women's bowling team completed the qualifying round during day two of the Crusader Classic.  The Red Wolves earned the fourth seed and are in the championship bracket Sunday.

A-State finished the day with a 4-2 record and qualified for the fourth seed with a total pinfall of 5,774.  The Red Wolves will compete in the championship bracket because of its performance on Friday.

"4-2 and qualifying fourth is an ok day in this field," A-State women's bowling coach Justin Kostick said.  "If this was a normal event we would be the leader because of our pins from the first day so I'm pleased with the first two days.  We need to continue this momentum into Sunday and bring home a victory."

A-State began the day with a 1,063-1,000 win over Wisconsin-Whitewater and a 973-877 win over Alma College.  The Red Wolves dropped two matches to Vanderbilt (930-877) and Central Missouri (986-968), but bounced back for wins over Elmhurst (973-751) and Valparaiso (920-833).

Junior Sarah Lokker claimed the tournament MVP honors after bowling a 1,294 over the six games today.

"I'm happy for Sarah getting the tournament MVP," Kostick added.  "It's always nice when players do well individually."

Arkansas State will play one match against Sam Houston State Sunday because it'll give each team the chance to compete against every other team in the tournament.  After the SHSU matchup, the bracket play will begin.  Action gets underway at 8:30 a.m.
