LEACHVILLE, AR (KAIT) - A Region 8 girl is recovering in a Jonesboro hospital after she was bitten by a dog, according to Leachville police.
Lt. Chuck Brown with the Leachville Police Department told Region 8 News that a four-year-old pit bull mix bit a seven-year-old girl in the face early Saturday afternoon as the girl was playing with her friends. According to Brown, the dog was on a leash in the yard.
Brown said, "At some point, the dog lunged at the girl as they were playing."
The girl was transported by ambulance to NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro, where she underwent surgery. She is expected to be okay.
Brown said the girl has had contact with the dog in the past. The animal was surrendered to Leachville Animal Control and will be placed in quarantine for 10 days. The owners said the animal is up to date on its shots. Brown said he does not expect the owners to be charged because they were in compliance with all city ordinances.
