One dead following officer-involved shooting in Manila

MANILA, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Manila where a man was killed.

Timothy Johnson, 41, of Manila was shot and killed by a Manila police officer shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to ASP.

The officer had been dispatched to a disturbance at 601 Highway 18.

Initial reports, according to ASP, indicate Johnson was "holding a knife and advanced toward the officer" after being ordered to drop the knife by the officer.

No one else was injured in the incident.

Johnson's body was taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for examination and to determine the cause of death.

The name of the officer has not yet been released.

The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division will compete its investigation and submit findings to the prosecuting attorney.
