MARMADUKE, AR (KAIT) - A Greene County man who told police masked men shot him with his own gun was arrested after his claim was found to be untrue.
Marmaduke Police Chief Steve Franks says Jeffery Scoggin, 23, of Marmaduke was arrested for filing a false police report, a felony, in addition to a misdemeanor charge of discharging a firearm in the city limits.
Franks states on Dec. 17, 2015 officers were dispatched to the 700-block of North 4th St. to a person shot.
Officers found Scoggin in his backyard with a single gunshot to the left shoulder. Scoggin told police two men, one armed with a .38-caliber revolver, "held him up at gunpoint" in his own backyard.
The man also said he had a .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol on his side and one of the suspects took it and shot Scoggin with his own gun.
However, Franks states that during the investigation it was revealed that Scoggin had actually shot himself and made up the story about the masked men.
Scoggin will appear in court on Feb. 26.
Franks notes that his office has received several calls of concern about the fictional suspects, but wants to ensure residents no masked men are "at large" in Marmaduke.
