INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A group in Independence County is working to give people the vote on whether the county should sell alcohol or not.

"Keep Our Dollars in Independence County" wants to get the wet/dry issue on the November 2016 ballot.

The group sent out several canvassers to the county Wednesday to start gathering signatures for the petition.

They will have to get over 7,800 signatures for the county to put the issue on the ballot.

The group set a personal goal of two months to get enough signatures.

The last time people in Independence County voted on the issue was in 1944.

The group tried to push for it to be on the ballot back in 2013, but backed off when the issue was brought up statewide.

The group has been active on Facebook prompting their goal and canvassers can be found at several places in the county asking for signatures.
