Student overdose reported at Trumann High School

TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) - A Region 8 police department is investigating a student overdose.

Trumann Police Chief Chad Henson said a student overdosed at the high school Friday, but the student is "medically fine."

Because the incident is still under investigation, Henson said he couldn't give many details.

However, he did say it was an overdose on "prescription pills the student should not have had."

Trumann High School Principal Michelle Waymire told Region 8 News Monday afternoon that it was not technically an overdose.

She said the student took one pill that was not prescribed to him or her and the student appeared disoriented.

Waymire said the ambulance service was called out of precaution and the student was released from the hospital later the same day.

The student is being disciplined according to rules stated in the student handbook.
