JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - When they couldn't break into the ATM, police say a couple of burglars stole two cash registers from a local convenience store.

Around 2 a.m. Monday, Officer Jonathan Wood responded to an alarm at Doublebee's #129 (Gladiola Express), 3511 Harrisburg Rd.

Surveillance video showed two men wearing ski masks and gloves shattered the front door glass with a tire iron and entered the store.

The two "immediately began trying to break into the ATM machine," Wood said in his report. "They tried to pull the machine over, and they kicked it a few times before they gave up."

The suspects then went to the counter and grabbed the cash registers before running south from the store.

A store employee arrived on the scene and confirmed that the only items missing were the registers, which she said contained $100 each in miscellaneous currency. She placed the value of the registers at $1,000.

The case has been turned over to detectives for investigation.
